Legal Advocacy

The Diane Peppler Resource Center provides legal advocacy in all three counties. The legal advocate works closely with police departments and the County Prosecutor’s Office. Our legal advocate can accompany you to court or for interviews with law enforcement and prosecuting attorneys. We can provide a safe place for you to attend court online if allowed by your county.

The legal advocate offers assistance with legal issues ranging from attending court, explaining the legal process, or steps of the criminal case, to helping the survivor with filing a Personal Protection Order. The legal advocate attends all of the domestic violence and sexual assault court hearings in our service area. It’s important for us to keep up to date with the court proceedings in case a victim requests assistance or has any questions. All court outcomes are reported on our monthly statistics.

We refer those who cannot hire an attorney to Northern Michigan Legal Aid or www.michiganlegalhelp.org
